Powertouch movers & leisure batteries

We have experienced a lot of our customers who have recently had new Powertouch motormovers and batteries fitted calling us reporting that their movers keep cutting out when in use. After investigating several cases and liasing with Powertouch we have found the problem in most cases to be caused by the leisure battery being weak / not charged. What has been happening is when the motormover has been in use, for example, driving the caravan forward its pulling down the voltage in the battery below 12v. With the new Powertouch movers they are dependent on a 12v supply, therefore when the battery falls below this voltage the control box / motormover will cut out. Once the control box / motormover has cut out the battery voltage will naturally pick up again as there is no longer any load on it. This will then allow the control box to start up again and let you start moving the caravan as the voltage has gone above 12v again.

With new batteries they come “part charged” therefore they need fully charging before being put into use. The reason they are only part charged is to pro-long the life of the battery.

The key things to remember to keep your leisure battery in good healthy order is to avoid deep discharge, keep it topped up by charging it at regular intervals and do not leave it on charge for too longer periods. We recommend that when the caravan is not in use the battery is topped up (charged) once a month for a few days.
