Al-Ko
You may have seen or heard about AL-KO Brake issues currently affecting the industry?

The issues reported are on AL-KO brakes produced within the last 3 years so most are still under warranty if affected, as long as you have maintained your servicing correctly.

What are the symptoms?
A high pitched, ear piercing squealing noise as soon as you brake.

What is normal?
To a degree all caravan brake set ups will sometimes make a noise of sorts, a light or occasional squeak or squeal, this is normal, the noise we are talking about is not normal and far more constant, louder and regular.

What is the cause?
AL-KO have stated that a particular material used on this timeframe of production of shoes has caused this issue, they are standing by their product and authorising vehicles that are still under warranty to have all brake shoes replaced for a revised/ improved formula shoe which is most cases will eradicate the issue.

What if new shoes do not fix it?
If the shoes are replaced and the noise persists then AL-KO will in most cases authorise the replacement of the drums also – subject to a audio / video recording verifying that the noise present is abnormal.

The other reasons the drums may be replaced is if scoring is present – if this is the case the vehicle would need to come to us for inspection and photos to be taken to pass to AL-KO.

As always there is a warranty process to follow so if you need replacement brake components we will have to raise a claim, await authorisation and then the parts to arrive , so it will mean a return trip to us to have them replaced, this is unavoidable and at least will resolve the issue once done.
